Wine in Burgundy!
Pommard, Meursault, Gevrey-Chambertin, Beaune… Indeed, the most expensive wines in the world 'grow' in Burgundy. But that doesn't mean you can't find cheap wines there! Wineries are within driving distance in Vezelay (45min.) and Beaune (about 1.5 hours drive)
For useful information and tips about the wine and activities:
The Route des Grands Crus is the name of a tourist route in Burgundy, France. The approximately 60 km long route runs along the foot of the slope of the Côte d'Or, from Dijon in the north to Santenay in the south. Along the gently rolling hills, between each village, only a few kilometers apart, are tight rows of vines. You can buy and taste delicious wines in almost every one of these villages. You can choose your route to our house via Beaune, fun to do!
The Temple of the 1000 Buddhas in Le Boulay, the largest Buddhist temple in Europe. The Paldenshangpa Buddhist Center was established in 1974.
In the middle of the rolling Burgundian hills you suddenly come across this Buddhist temple. You can go there for an introductory course with Buddhism, meditation, or yoga. Well worth a visit.

A summer full of music
Near our house in the towns of Luzy, Millay, Larochemillay and Moulins-Engilbert, various (music) festivals take place in the spring and especially in the summer.
With regard to the festivals, summer really starts in Chalon-sur-Saône : for 5 days in July, the city turns into a huge party area for more than 1000 street performers. Chalon dans la rue is one of the most important festivals for urban spectacles. Street theatre, dance, circus acts, performances… In just a few years, this popular – and free – party has become a highlight in the artistic world.
An excellent excuse to discover Chalon and its cathedral Saint-Vincent and to stroll along the banks of the river Saone or go out for dinner in one of the many restaurants on 'l'Ile Saint Laurent'.

Cistercian Abbey
The Cistercian abbey of Fontenay, as a jewel of Northern Burgundy, is an absolute must for when you travel through the Morvan. Today it is known as the oldest monastery in France. Fontenay Abbey is a former Cistercian abbey in Burgundy, in the commune of Montbard. The abbey is considered a prime example of 12th-century Cistercian architecture, where the architecture and location in a secluded and green valley allowed for complete seclusion. This abbey is named after the fountains that adorn its gardens.
Lakes of the Morvan
To the north of the Regional Natural Park, the large lakes invite you to get out and about and play sports on calm waters. Are you ready for relaxation? That certainly works at the lakes of the Morvan! Lake Settons, for example, offers water sports for everyone. Opt for a canoe trip to the big island, where many bird species nest, and set foot on a new continent. Pedal boats, horseback riding and mountain biking are other ways to enjoy the vast natural areas with the family.
La Charite-sur-Loire
La Charité-sur-Loire is a picturesque village in the department of Nièvre that owes its name to the charity or charité of the monks. It is a medieval city on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1998. Get on the major roads to Santiago de Compostela, it continues to attract pilgrims. Its history begins in 1059. The Bishop of Auxerre, Hugh of Champallement, donated his lands in a place called “Seyr” (along the Loire) to Hugh of Semur, Abbot of Cluny, who built a monastery.
autun
Autun owes its name to the Roman princeps Augustus, who founded the city of Augustodunum around the beginning of our era on the site of present Autun. He wanted to found a city in Gaul that would express the power of Rome. That's why Autun got some impressive buildings; some of them still have the remains of many Roman structures, including a theater and city gates.
Chateau Bazoches
Against the hills of the Morvan, not far from Vézelay, the castle raises its towers. Under Louis XIV it was the residence of Vauban. Now the château forms the romantic setting for the Nuits musicales. This symbolic place offers 1001 possibilities. Bazoches represents the art de vivre in Burgundy!
Castle of Cormatin
Located in the heart of Southern Burgundy, between Tournus and Cluny. Originally it was a fortress, but in the seventeenth century Antoine du Blé completely converted it into a castle. Since then, the Renaissance castle continues to impress people with its beautiful interior, which was made in the style of Louis XIV.
Bibracte, mountain Beuvray
Bibracte, entitled 'Site naturel remarquable', is a museum of Celtic civilization and an important research center. Numerous activities bring Gallic civilization within reach of the whole family. The name Bibracte possibly means double fortified. Bibracte, founded on one of the peaks of the Haut-Morvan, was the capital of the mighty tribe of the Haedui.
Channels of Burgundy
The canals of Burgundy were built between the 17th and 19th centuries. They competed with the railway. Now they bear witness to the history of the areas they traverse. For driftwood and pottery transport… The canals of Burgundy have a long history and have been dug out by hand. Sailors' legs are not necessary to explore this 1000 km long water network. It is unique in France.
We had the honor of being the first 'tenants' to enjoy this great accommodation. Whether the sun is high in the sky or the clouds are taking over the sky, this place is amazing. Every time the view will enchant you and take you into your most beautiful thoughts.
Thanks for letting us be here. We wish everyone who comes after us the same magical experience.'

'And we were allowed to be the second tenants. I was sitting in the garden, in front of the hammocks, staring ahead and looking at the ever-changing sky, listening to the crickets - every now and then one jumps at me - and I felt like I was in a painting .
Normally you look at a landscape that always remains the same, but you always notice something different, only you walk away and you never sit where the painter was. Now I was there and I would prefer to be immortalized there. We had so much fun, found peace, walked, read, swam, cycled and had a delicious meal in Sémelay at le Clos de la Bussière, on the gravel next to the church, overlooking trees. Exceptionally beautiful.'

...greatly enjoyed this French paradise

As three third tenants, we have also greatly enjoyed this French paradise. The garden, the fragrant flowers, the butterflies, being outside, taking a shower outside, the silence and the feeling of being alone in the world, we have come to rest. Compliments for the decoration of the house, tasteful and very complete. We felt at home from the first moment. Thank you also for looking after us and calling in helplines when we accidentally drove into a ditch along the road! Everything turned out well, it was a real adventure! C'est la vie!
Just like the house, the environment is magnificent, romantic and reminded us strongly of the movie 'Call me by your name'. It felt like we were in a landscape peinture, one of the best quality.
We urged everyone to stargaze at night, so you can make many wishes, because many fall.

We felt like Adam and Eve in paradise in "la Fleur Sauvage"! From the sitz baths, overlooking the wonderful hilly landscape with grazing white cows and always different skies. The apple trees full of fruit and fortunately without a snake to seduce Eve. The grapes to enjoy from the hammock. The wonderful scent of lots of lavender. And then in the evening after a wonderful day
afterglow with a delicious glass of wine and beautiful French cheeses! The cottage has been furnished with so much love and taste that you immediately feel at home! It was a privilege to be here for a week. Many thanks dear Martijn and Fleurien! We'd love to come back here!

We were very pleasantly surprised when we viewed the house and the garden with a view. Atmospheric, comfortable, complete and spacious. We felt right at home. We also enjoyed lying in the chairs with a glass of wine and staring at that special starry sky! When we got a flat tire with our bikes and didn't have a repair kit with us, Arie came the next morning with a simson box! The bike ride along the canal and to the swimming lake at la Machine was wonderful. Had a great laugh in those crazy pools with a view of the hill. In short, enjoy and relax for a week. We made good use of the full bookcase with a lot of choice.

And otherwise we could always "hide" inside in the lovely cool living room. We really enjoyed our stay!

What a wonderful week we had in this paradisiacal environment. Every time full of amazement about how cosy, atmospheric the house is. You have decorated it so lovingly together! We had our bikes with us this time. Highly recommended to visit towns by bike and to cycle along the Canal du Nivernais, with all the beautiful locks and beautiful views. But you can also rent bicycles there, we saw.
In the vicinity of La Fleur Sauvage we find it too hilly for cycling, even for the electric bicycle (but that may be due to the age). Nice walk and garden pruning done! And above all enjoyed it so much! The supermarket in Luzy is really a 'topper' If only the Netherlands had so many delicacies in the supermarkets! Thank you dear two! We had a great time!
